Video Poker is a beloved game that can be wagered on in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your computer, through an Internet account. The game rules are very simple and involve the player trying to get the highest combination of cards as you can in order to win money. On this account it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A five card hand will be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the enthusiast has decided on which cards he would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards are given out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that discerning gamblers are able to select the most beneficial game each time.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, some styles of the game allow the gambler a chance to increase their winnings, in which instance another round is played. There are also differences among individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
