Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be bet on in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your computer, through a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to get the highest combination of cards achievable in order to come away with cash. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the enthusiast puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the deal button. A five card hand will be "dealt" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most beneficial game each instance.

As soon as the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Additionally, some versions of the game give the bettor an opportunity to increase their profits, in which situation another hand is played. There are also variations between specific machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
