Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be gambled on in casinos across the globe, or in your house on your personal computer, through an Internet account. The game rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the highest combination of cards possible in order to acquire cash. On this account it’s very similar as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "handed out" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards are handed out if desired. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Generally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are able to select the most money-making machine each time.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Further, a few styles of the game allow the bettor an opportunity to double their winnings, in which instance another round is played. There are also differences among specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
