Video Poker is a popular game that can be gambled on in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with competing players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker begins when the enthusiast inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the bettor has selected which cards she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful gamblers are able to pick the most money-making game every instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Additionally, a few versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to double their wins, in which instance another game is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.
