Electronic Poker is a beloved game that can be gambled on in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your PC, through a web connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the highest combination of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it’s very similar as a normal game of poker, without the involvement with competing players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and presses the deal button. A hand of five cards will then be "given out" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and enthusiasts should now decide which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards he wishes to keep, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be dealt. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from game to game, so that knowledgeable bettors are able to select the most profitable game each time.

Once the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, several styles of the game give the gambler an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which instance another hand is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying aspects to increase playability.
